Short Trip To KURSK

Departure : 11.15 pm ,30 April 09, Kurskii Vokzal , Moscow

Arrival :06.30 am ,1 May 09, Kursk

About Kursk : As far as I know , Kursk used to be the battlefield for the largest number of tanks involved in a war. It was during the World War 2 (WW2 1939-1945) the USSR claims the victory over Nazi Germany in this very state of Kursk.

The main intention for this trip is to meet with our brothers whose study in Kursk State Medical University ,KSMU and to know them better about their life there, about their study , and the most important one is to know how the life as a muslim student there.

As informed by Abg. Zaid , even though in Kursk there are many muslims ,which some of them are students from Malaysia, India, and other Arabic countries but there are no proper mosque available for them to perform ibadah.

Usually if there are muslim community in a certain place,they will rent an apartment or a place to be used as a musollah for them to perform Jumaat prayer. The Malaysian students perform Jumaat prayer in one of the university's hostel there. It seems the musollah do not have enough space to accommodate all the students as it is shared with students from other countries also.

I'm very impressed with our brothers in Kursk ,with their friendliness toward us , with their ukhwah among themselves. I'm really touched by how they had treated us as a guest. Even though this is the first time they meet us, but they treated us very nicely that I don't think I can do the same thing when they become my guest in Moscow. Maybe it was because they really hold what is been taught in islam, to respect and treat a guest nicely, to treat other muslim as our own brother.

I also can observe how they live in a very friendly and harmony community . When we took a walk with the brothers from Kursk , there are few times we met with other Malaysian students , Malays, Chinese , or Indians. Each time we met them, these brothers will go talk to them or at least give a smile to show that they acknowledge the present of them.

This situation is unfamiliar among Malaysians students in Moscow. I'm saying unfamiliar ,doesn't mean that it is absent at all. In Moscow, maybe because it is too large Malaysian community in here ,that a student feels it is already comfortable to have friends and acquaintances among their batch or hostel members only. It is normal to see two Malaysian students passed each other without any reaction at all , just like they come from different continents with different mother tongue that makes them totally stranger to each other,even both of them are the same race or not. Just like I say before, unfamiliar doesn't mean it is absent at all. Some students who still have the awareness of the important of ukhwah in a community do act like our brothers in Kursk.

Conclusion: This short trip had taught me some important lesson to be practised in my life as muslim student insyaAllah;

  • To be grateful for the godness and nikmat that Allah have gives us
  • To strengthen the ukhwah among our muslim brothers
  • Always respect your guest as been taught in islam
  • Try to give ,not just to take
